President Report
January 20, 2010 The directors and officers of Katy American Little League hope that all of you have enjoyed a happy and health start to this new year, and we welcome you to another exciting season!
Our Spring 2010 season is now just around corner, with our live registration events now just days away. We at KALL have already been hard at work getting ready for another exciting year of Little League play.
For 2010, Katy American is making some significant changes and improvements. For example, we’re now renovating Field #3 into all new “54/80” field sized to better serve our 13–14 year old players in the Juniors division. In previous years, Field#3 has been a “60/90” field (meaning a 60-foot pitching distance and 90-foot bases). Changing to a smaller 54/80 field will provide for a much easier transition as players graduate out of the “46/60” fields used for ages 10–12. This change is sure to make “Juniors” league play a more appealing and popular option for our age 13–14 players, plus it gives our league greater flexibility come tournament time.
So where will the 15–16 year old “Majors” s be playing? Great question! Just as we did last year, KALL will combine with Katy National Little League to field a fully-staffed Seniors team which will use the KNLL Seniors field for home games.
Note that due to this renovation work, use of Field#3 will be temporarily disrupted in the next few weeks, Depending upon weather and volunteer turnout, we might have to slightly delay the tryouts and draft for the Juniors division, but these delays are not expected to impact the practice or league season. (Stay tuned for details!)
Additionally, we’re now beginning repair and minor renovation work on Field#7 (Minor 9s field) and could really stand as much additional volunteer assistance as available. Fields#1 and #2 (the Majors and Minors fields respectively) will then receive attention as we continue the renovation program started last Spring. Again as last year, we are asking for your help — labor or money both equally welcome and needed! Premium “base-mix” dirt exactly as used by the MLB Astros will be applied to fields, and pitching mounds are being totally rebuilt from below ground up.
REMEMBER: tryouts will be held on Feb. 6/7 and Feb. 13/14. Please check the www.katyamerican.org for the correct time of your division. Our official “Opening Day” this year will be Saturday, March 27. All games on Opening Day will start at 10:00 AM and the last game will begin at 4:00 PM. PLEASE NOTE that a few teams will open their season on THURSDAY, March 25! (This small scheduling adjustment will GREATLY improve our scheduling flexibility for the remainder of the season!)
Again, welcome back. Now let’s get ready to PLAY BALL!
